ABOUT

Full bio

Jhunu Sarkar, an Indian contemporary abstract artist whose work evokes silence, emotion, and rhythm through color and form. Born in Kolkata and currently based in New Delhi, Jhunu’s artistic journey is deeply personal — a quiet reflection of her inner world, shaped by the textures of memory, the chaos of urban life, and the spiritual essence of her Bengali roots.

Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, her art is intuitive and layered — sometimes bold and raw, sometimes soft and meditative. Through abstract expression, she transforms intangible feelings into visual experiences, using movement, contrast, and deep colorwork to invite viewers into a dialogue without words.

Inspired by nature, space, music, ancient traditions, and everyday life in India, Jhunu’s works are rich in emotion yet open to interpretation — each piece becoming a mirror for the observer’s own experience.

Though largely self-taught, her work reflects a mature voice. Jhunu’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries across India and featured in online art platforms. She brings her evolving collection to an international audience at World Art Dubai, presenting the bold sincerity of Indian abstraction on a global stage.

Experience

She curated her first group show, ‘Black’, at the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, in 2015, a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of her journey into abstract thought. In 2016, she showcased her evolving perspective through a solo exhibition at Lokayata Art Gallery, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi. These milestones solidified her deep engagement with abstract storytelling, textures, and forms.

Her solo show “Brishti” was held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, in 2023, receiving widespread appreciation for its emotional depth and visual narrative.

Jhunu has also actively participated in several national and international art events, including:
India Art Festival – Mumbai (2018)
Jaipur Kala Mahotsav – JKK, Jaipur (2017)
India Art Festival – Bangalore, Chitrakala Parishad (2022)
World Art Dubai – 2022
India Art Festival – Delhi (2023)

World Art Dubai – 2024

Her work resonates with a balance of intuition and technique, often inspired by nature, spiritual reflection, and the everyday life of Indian women. With each stroke and canvas, Jhunu Sarkar invites her viewers into a world where color, silence, and emotion merge into a quiet yet powerful language of their own.

When not painting, she finds joy in literature, cooking, and long silences — spaces where new ideas are born.

I don’t paint what I see. I paint what I feel — and sometimes what I cannot say.” – Jhunu Sarkar
